Engaged ,
Mar 19, 2009 Mar 19, 2009
Hi All,

Anyone experienced any difficulties compiling exe files where the swf needs access to XML files? Is there any thing to look out for etc...

Any input, appreciated in advance; now show me some love ;)

Kind Regards,

you need to make sure that you have the setting correct for when publishing? What settings are you using ?
I build a front end exe which used XML (SCORM) for building a navigation structure.

Hi,

Long awaited reply, thanks.

Could you please explain what you mean by "you need to make sure that you have the setting correct for when publishing?"

Is EXE compatible with Flash apps that incorporate xml files?

Yes and the proper name is Projector you can create a projector file from any swf simply run the swf then click file then create projector. You must of course be sure it's in the same folder as the swf or it won't have access to the xml and any other resources it needs. To prove my point download
http://www.flashmagazine.com/articlefiles/photo_gallery/photo_gallery.zip
extract the file run the swf then create the projector in the same folder.

Hi,

DogHouseJim, thank you for your second response, sorted, nice one 😉 I can now place my work onto cds for clients.

Thats not a bad photo gallery, shame it's not configured with a preloader; it would be a hell of a wait for users.
I mention this, because right now I am in the middle of creating a preloader sys. for my own photo gallery; its not a smooth ride by any wankers calculation; it's driving me mad, soon I'll be in the dog house or the nut house ;)

See, I was hoping that when I unzipped the file you provided; I had a lil thought there in the back of my head saying "Ya" maybe just maybe it will have a XML preloader example.

Am I going to purchase a lotto ticket this week?

Anyways, thanks you for your time.

Kind Regards,

I burned the files to cd and ran from there just to see how slow it loaded it took a few seconds but didn't seem particularly slow to me. Maybe if I had a old 8x cd player or something it would seem slow. Do you mean a preloader.swf? Are you writing this in AS3? Need any help, I'm unemployed and in need of experience.

Hi DogHouseJim,

I am working on a as3 photo gallery that is reading an data.xml file; my problem is that when viewed online it's too slow (waiting for the images to load) basically, its blank spot for each image get me?

So what's required, is some sort of preloader, that pops up (displays) untill all images are ready for viewing. Now, this may seem an easy one, but way different to that of a normal preloader. Now I have found a few tuts on advanced preloading, one in particular seems a good bet. Some guru on flashkit forum, heer is the thread:

http://board.flashkit.com/board/showthread.php?t=661940&page=7

Currently, I am in the middle building a business, but not really earning enough to employ people, but I may be in a better position within a couple of months. So it's up to your good self if you want to chip in and help me put this preloader to rest ;)

Remember, we are dealing with an data.xml file that calls the images from an image folder, not sure of your experience, but do not confuse by trying to learn how to load the xml file, we need a system that loads the images.

Kind Regards,

Boxing Boom

Hi,

I know, thank you for reminding me 😉 I was referring to the online version. Maybe, you could help me out, as in how to begin such a preloader?
