CS5 Flash Pro crashes on launch. Working on Mac, started doing this after I upgraded to El Capitan. Rest of CS5 working ok. Attempted fixes:
Various restarts; reinstall Flash Pro; attempted preferences resets; Java 6 legacy installation. Still won't launch. Any solution other than wiping hard drive and downgrading to earlier OS X? Dubious of trying it, even with backup.

(or remove Win: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Adobe\Animate CC <version>\ and
C\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Animate\<version>\
Mac: /Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/<Animate CC version>/ and
/Users/<username>/Library/Preferences/Adobe/Animate/<version>/)

Thank you. Reviewed same website days ago, was not able to do this. Flash Pro (Animate) folder is not in location cited, even after reinstall.

CS3 works fine, how it did import in those days was different I guess. CS6 opens fine, but then crashes when you try to import something. My guess is that CS5 imports things in the same way as CS6, but it initializes the import code when you launch. Which is why it crashes sooner than CS6 does.
I asked the Animate team if they could help investigate the crashes, in the hope that something could be done in macOS to fix the problem (that assumes that Adobe won't ever release a patch for the old versions). Unfortunately, the team is too busy adding features to Animate. Which is a good thing, but sad for CS5 and 6 users.
The one thing that works around the CS6 issue, that might work for CS5 too, is to run it from an external drive that isn't APFS, or to have your boot drive not be APFS.
