Help needed. "Unexpected File Format" with .fla files

I'm using Macromedia Flash 8 and whenever I try to open a .fla file with resources I need it says "unexpected file format" I've searched for answers but haven't found anything that worked. Please help

This simply means that the FLA files you are trying to open were saved by a later version of Flash in the newer format.

Flash 8 will only be able to open FLA files saved by Flash 8 and earlier.

 

All versions of Flash prior to CS6 can only open their own FLAs and those saved by earlier versions.

They can also save one version down.

 

A CS4 FLA for example needs to be saved down to CS3 format in Flash CS4, then opened in CS3 and saved down to Flash 8 format, so that you can work on it in Flash 8.

nevermind! figured out a solution, not exactly what I was going for but found out that importing the .swf file that came with the resources to the stage worked

im using .fla i just realised i was supposed to do .swf

is there any way to convert fla to swf?

btw the version of flash is in the screenshot(flash8)

to create a swf from a fla, it has to be opened in some flash/animate version and published.

 

and your screenshot only shows what version is being used to (try to) open, not create.
