How can I export an animate file with a transparent background and import into After effects?

Hi there,

I've created an animation in animate and exported it with a transparent background as an mp4 file (set with an alpha channel etc) but when I import it into After Effects, the background appears black.  Does this mean the background is transparent?  I would try and import the animate file however After Effects always has a problem when I try and import the file.  If anyone could help it would be most appreciated!  I just want the animation to be on the background I've created in After Effects. Thanks guys.

When you place your footage into your AE composition above your background, can you see the background through the alpha background? Alpha in AE usually appears as black but should be tranparent if you checked the box on output from AnCC...Screen Shot 2020-03-24 at 9.34.52 AM.pngexpand image

Just figured it out!  I was exporting it as an MP4 file which doesn't support transparency, so instead I saved it out as a SWF file and it worked fine!  Thank you for your help!

Go to File -> Export -> Animated GIF (or perhaps some of the other options will support transparency).

Then there will be a 'Transparency' checkbox. Check this and it will work.

Also, if you see some white 'anti-aliasing' pixels around your exported video, change the 'Matte' dropdown to 'None'.
