How do you make good blood effects?

Hello, for a new project I'm making, I'm trying to add some blood effects in the vein of shows like Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Squidbillies. There's a few gruesome scenes and I'm at a loss at how to make the blood look.... well, convincing. Any tips?

I'd say go for FAST blood. No one believes slow blood unless pooling. 

Frame-by-frame animation and not tweens.
