How do you wait to load certain movie clips or frames?

I have seen flash sites that wait to load different parts of the flash file until you click on a link, thereby starting a loading graphic that then loads the content you're looking for. I can't find any information on how to do this, and I'm guessing I just can't find the right terminology.

Does anybody have the right verbiage for me or can anybody point me to a website that explains the process? Thanks, Dan

the only thing that will prevent images and/or movieclips from loading with your swf is to move those assets outside of flash.  ie, for images, they would need to be loaded and for movieclips, they would need to be saved as swfs and loaded.

Look into the Loader class if it involves loading images or other swf files.  You can assign listeners via its contentLoaderInfo property to keep track of loading progress and determine when various loading events occur.  You can have a button trigger the loading process or whatever other event you might want to use.

The images are definitely the hogs. So if I use the loader class on certain images, it will keep them from preloading in the original movie?

What I was hoping was to have it load certain movieclips when buttons were clicked. Is this possible if the movieclips are not other SWF files but actual clips within the movie itself??

that's a preloader for loaded content.
