how to disable the maximize button in exe

you'll need to use a 3rd party app like zinc.

Is this an AIR app or a projector file? If it is an AIR app, then you can prevent the maximize option under File -> AIR [version number] for Desktop Settings -> Advanced -> (uncheck) Maximizable. If it is a projector, follow kglad's advice.

(a projector is the only exe published by flash pro.  an air app is not an exe.)

but, you're right, ticking output as a 'windows installer' also publishes an exe.

I wasn't trying to be snarky if it came across that way. I work only a Mac and figured if the Mac version of Flash creates an ".app" file that the Windows version would generate a ".exe" app. I thought ".app" files were only for Windows 8 and newer.

i think you have a good point about that (the app file), too.

i'm on a pc and don't know why it publishes an .app file when i tick 'application with runtime embedded'.  i sure can't run that file on my pc.

Are you using CC or CS6? I wonder if this is a bug that should be reported to Adobe. Can you change the extension before it is published to "exe" and it work fine?
