How to use Asset Warp tool on symbols imported from Illustrator?

Hello,

I'm new to Animate and I would like to use the Asset Warp tool to create a mesh from a symbol that was imported from Illustrator. However, it seems that you cannot use the AW tool on symbols... Is there a way to convert my Illustrator graphic into a shape or something that will work with the AW tool? I don't want to convert it into a bitmap because it pixelates the graphics.
