I need help with a rigging problem

This is probably a really simple fix but I've spent hours looking for the solution and I don't know what to do

I have this stick figure and I want to move the body, but when I click to move it it just moved the bones on top, arms legs or head. The only way I can move it is by moving the arms and head out of the way (picture 2) and then I can click and drag the body. Obviously this defeats the point of using a rig because I want to move the body which will move the arms and head. Any idea how I can select the body to move it?
