Make silhouette of the previous sprite to line up with new sprite

I am using animate to make animations with two dimensional sprites. I once thought I made some kind of silhouette of the previous sprite so I knew where to line up the new sprite on the next frame, so I didn't have to keep clicking back and forth between frames to get up lined up right. How does one do this?
