More realistic brush

New Here ,
Jan 05, 2025 Jan 05, 2025

I'm new to adobe animate and doing some basic brush animation overtop of a video element. My problem is that the brush looks extremely flat and fake, due to its lack of any texture variation. Is this more varied and realistic brush look something which can be done in animate? I assume the solution may have something to do with creating a custom brush, but I'm not sure if its possible to introduce randomness into this equation.

Thank you.

Which brush? Animate has 3+ native brush types... yet no raster brush that insiders and community alike have advised for years upon years. Which may be considered weird. Yes.

Hi.

I think you'll either need to add the desired textured look over your vector strokes in a third party software or use a tool that provides raster brushes out of the box, like Clip Studio Paint, Krita or Procreate Dreams.

@griffin_3550  JoãoCésar already provided a good list of animation software with proper looking bitmap brushes for the type of work mentioned by you.

Additional contenders vying for such a job --with good raster paint brush engines-- would be OpenToonz (free, open source), Tahoma (simplified user interface variant of OpenToonz) and TVPaint.
