Ok, I've been going round in circles with trying to publish to iOS devices. I have successfully published projects to several devices already but the process seems very inconsistent in terms of results.
Now, I cannot publish to any device, getting the error message "more than one device connected".
I have recorded the screen with 2 different devices to show what happens:

I have also tested this on two other Macs - an iMac and a Macbook Pro - with equally inconsistent results. Prior to this test Animate had reported that it had published the project successfully, but there was no app on the iPad. I've posted questions with support on these issues and been told simply to come back to the forum. I've now even gone to the Adobe Care team on Twitter and I'm waiting for a reply but in the meantime I've been asked to come here.
I'm starting to think this simply isn't fit for purpose in publishing iOS apps...
The version of Animate is 16.1.0.86 (latest at the time of posting) and the version of iOS is 10 on the iPad Air 2 and 9 on the iPad 3 (both the latest versions at the time of posting)
Do you know that it's pronounced " i o s", not "i Oss"?
That probably wouldn't explain the issues though! There are existing known issues where ADT ends up seeing other devices that are on the same network. Nothing to do with iTunes sync, more to do with AIR's abilities to find those devices.
There are at least a couple of things that can go wrong when publishing. One would be if the provisioning has problems, and another would be if the device is locked at the time. ADT doesn't take the time to a

The error message is confusing, because ADT can install on more than one device.
It was odd that iTunes opened itself. Do you have it set to launch when a device is connected?
The way I work is different. I generally use Test on Device Via USB. That would do an immediate test on the device shown in the list. When I want to test on other devices I use Xcode's Devices window to drag the IPA onto whatever other devices I have connected. It manages to do the install without requiring the device to be unlocked too. It's also good for spotting provisioning issues, you get a useful error message, as opposed to AIR just not putting the app on the device.

Thanks for the reply Colin. I'll run through your comments:
I'll update when I have tried to install my ipa directly.
Thanks!

Quick update - installing .ipa using Xcode works with 100% reliability. Thanks for the tip, Colin.
I think this shows that Animate is not a reliable application to publish directly to iOS devices though. Adobe - if you're reading, can you look at this problem.

You should log a bug, in case they're not reading:

I have shared this post with the team for their investigation. They will probably contact you for more information. Stay tuned.
Thanks,

Hi,
As Colin pointed out there may be more than one settings that can lead to such issues and we need to identify whether it is an ADT issue or Animate issue. One thing would be helpful here is to check whether the Output file field of AIR for iOS Settings dialog has the file extension .ipa intact with the file name.
Thanks!

Hi Mohan,
It doesn't have the. ipa extension. Although I should add that it never has
done and I have previously been able to publish successfully.
I'll test by adding the. ipa extension.
Thanks, Gary

Hi Gary,
By default the file name has .ipa extension but if you change it to something else then it takes only what you input(enter) and it is very unlikely that you enter .ipa while entering file name. This is something that we are working on to automatically append the file extension when you change it.
Thanks!
Mohan
