Other interactive software like Flash

New Here ,

Hi,

Personally I am a great fan of Flash, given its interactive application, except for iOS devices. I am interested to know which software is being used in the industry by interaction designers to create solutions for product simulation, interactive info-graphics that can be viewed across all platforms, including iOS.

Everyone says Flash is "dead";  I am curious to know if actionscript is no longer being taught in Design Schools nowadays. If so, what other interactive software has replaced Flash Actionscript in the Design Schools?

Thanks

I don't know what they teach in Design Schools but

1. The hope is that HTML5 will eventually deliver the same array of opportunities as Flash. We are yet to witness this. Current "cool" demos do not count as practical alternatives to Flash.

2. Flash as a technology is not dead. Flash is not natively supported on mobile devices and there is an undergoing effort to get rid of Flash plugin on desktops (not very successful so far but this is a different story).

A lot of developers write mobile apps using Flash and ActionScript 3. One of the common opinions is that apps developed with AIR often perform much better than apps written in more platform-native ways (like Objective-C on iOS).

In short - there is nothing out there yet that matches Flash in its capacities, conveniences, and development speed among other things. Of course there are other language that can deliver similar to Flash result but development cost is prohibitively expensive. This, by the way, includes HTML5.
