Self drawing line

So I know this question has been asked a million times, but I have searched high and low and can't find an answer that makes sense!

Surely by now Adobe should have added a self drawing line feature to Animate? Masking or erasing keyframe by keyframe for something so basic seems archaic.

I know it can be done in After Effects but that's not an option for me right now.

Has anyone got a better way to animate a stroke in Animate than masking?

Cheers!

Jess

Hi.

Unfortunately there's no panel/tool in Adobe Animate CC to achieve this parametrically like in AE.

But I'm very confident this can be achieved using a custom JSFL extension, though.

Regards,

JC

For those of you wondering what on Earth a "self-drawing line" is, no it's not some kind of sentient vector creature that summons itself into existence. Jessy is probably referring to an After Effects feature called trim paths.

Hah exactly! But I am looking for the equivalent in Adobe Animate instead!

(I would much rather be using AE instead, but our teacher says no   )

I hear you mate... and agree with you. Last week ago I tried to draw a rectangle by using 4 self drawings line by using mask layer... almost up to near the end previews in browser appeared nice and suddenly Chrome and Edge reported error with stack problem... until Firefox worked without problem. I planned to make a dozen of examples from the Descriptive Geometry but now I'm not sure is it possible without problems... especially when in "the game" is involved drawing compass animations! I hope someone better than we are would say something about it.

Don't spam a single issue to multiple threads. And why are you masking something as simple as a line? If it's just a plain black solid line, you could create the line as a thin rectangle, move the registration point to one end, then "draw" it by tweening its scale.

It's not spam, just shared my experience in order to get a explanation about product behavior or user respond as a solution. Maybe some advice, like you did it. More quality official videos about different situations could perhaps reduce the number of unnecessary complaints.
