Why SWF files?

From december 2+20 the flash-plugin is no longer supported. How come ANIMATOR continues to publish SWF files. ? Since the work produced cant even be watched on my own computer?

SWF is not useless and the file format can be utilized apart from Flash Player in web browsers. It's useful within Animate for testing your animation before publishing to MP4 or some other format, for an immediate example. Can also be used in other apps like After Effects.
