Cannot get the fill and stroke options to not be greyed out.

Anyone know how to have the fill and stroke tools for the paintbrush not to be greyed out? It'd be a great help to me,cheers

    There are two paint brushes, one that just does vector fill, and one that does variable stroke width and style. Make sure you have selected the icon that is a line and a brush, and not the one that is just a brush.
