Hi, I know this sounds daft but i can't clear individual guides by simply dragging them into the ruler and they arent locked! is this a known issue?

Hi,

Seems that the guide is not getting deleted by drag-drop on to the ruler area if the scroll bar is not at its top/left most position. To workaround this problem, please zoom out to a level where the scroll bars disappear to delete a specific guide by drag drop onto the ruler area.

Hope that helps.

Thansk!

View, Girds and Guides, uncheck lock guides

Maybe your guide line is inside a clip group. Double click the object that has that guide line you want to delete. You can delete it in the clip group.

Yes! This sounds like the problem I was having in Illustrator. If I tried to do View > Guides > Unlock Guides to select the individual ones I wanted to delete, I still wasn't even able to select them, despite the fact that I was able to select and delete other guides. Then I figured out that they had somehow gotten "grouped" with some objects on my artboard, so I clicked on that group and selected View > Guides > Release Guides. This made those guides I couldn't select before disappear without affecting my other guides.

In 2018, there's a new problem with deleting guides after updating to InDesign CC 13.0 (Mac). Apparently when opening a document created in a previous version of InDesign, unwanted column guides appeared on every Master Page in my document (they appeared as dark purple lines on top of my hot pink margin lines — but only on top of the vertical margin lines). These column guides are not on a layer, they are not locked, and they cannot be deleted — though they can be moved (sideways only). My work-around is to move them to the outermost edge of either side of the page (the gutter, if you have a spread). Af first it would not let me move more than one guide to the same edge — the second guide would be forced to sit next to the one that was put there first, but I kept trying and it finally let me put them on top of each other. The unwanted column guides are not actually deleted — they are still there and selectable — just not visible. This is a stupid problem that should not exist.

You're posting in the Animate CC forum, not the InDesign forum.

It was driving me batty, as well.  I figured out the my problem was simply that the guides (those horizontal blue lines) were in the Master page and, once I removed them from those masters, they all went away.

It's the layer options. If you right click on the layer the guide is on, and click layer options, there should be a checkbox that says lock guides. Uncheck and you are good to go.

The guides are locked. Right click on one, click unlock guides, then you can move or delete them.

The guide is applied on a layer, so you can delete a guide by deleting the layer.

Hope that helps

You must go to View>Guides>Lock Guides

By deselecting Lock Guides you can delete them.

Hello,

I was having the same problem and land on this page. I know that I can clear the guides, but it is not what I want. I want to erase just one guide. Reading to the answers here I saw the word lock and tried with that. On View, scrolled down until "unlock guides". Then I was able to erase the one guide I wanted to erase. Then I went back and lock the guides again. This definitely solved the problem.
