The latest Public Beta version of Audition introduces INSERT RECORDING (aka Ripple Insert Recording.). This is a Waveform Editor recording mode that, instead of overwriting existing audio data, inserts new recordings, pushing any existing audio data forward. Previously, you may have needed to clumsily record at the end of a file then cut and paste it where you wanted, or inserted silence, recorded into the silent region, then deleted any unused silence in order to drop a word, phrase, or more into an existing recording in Waveform view. This new recording mode lets you set it as a default option for all recordings.
To try out Insert Recording mode, download the latest update to Audition (Beta) in the Creative Cloud Desktop application and launch Audition. Right-click on the Record button and toggle from Overwrite to Insert mode:
Open a recording, or create a new one, then place the playhead where. you want to insert additional recorded audio. Click Record and you'll see your new recorded waveform inserted at this location, pushing the previous audio signal forward:
Insert Recording works with the default Instant Record mode, as well as Punch and Roll and Timed Recording modes. With Punch and Roll mode, you'll be able to read along with several seconds of previous audio before inserting new audio to keep your performance consistent and smooth.
This workflow improvement comes directly from user requests, on our UserVoice site as well as online forums and groups. We're very excited to add this valuable tool to Audition's arsenal, and look forward to your feedback.

I did a rough test of the Beta/Insert Record mode and I am really excited about this. In my teest, however, I am getting a nasty "bump," or an artifact if you will. It only happens when I use Insert with Punch and roll. In my attached audio sample, I count down from 10 and then applied Insert?Instant and everything was great. Then I counted down from 10 a second time and when the playhead reaches the record point, you will hear the artifact (at the ;28 second mark.)
I am using a Macbook Pro, Catalina with the onboard mic and speakers.
Thanks for that great work! I Love Love Love my AA!

This is great! Unfortunately I can't use it until one thing is corrected: Markers after the insertion point should move back as you record at the insertion point. Currently when you record, the markers stay at their current timepoints. This throws off all the markers after the insertion point.

This. It doesn't matter if you lock down the markers to the timeline or not- they still move in "insert" recording mode. Adobe needs to fix this, otherwise us longform narrators can't use it!

Sorry, I meant they DON'T move. 😉

Each new release I keep hoping that markers moving back magically appears so I can start using Insert Recording.
Check out how the markers "move" (they look like they stay in the same place relative to the recording head) in TwistedWave when you start recording before a marker.

Well, I really wanna like this, but trying an Insert Recording just hung the app, totally frozen and unresponsive. At least the auto-recovery did its job perfectly!

Sorry to revive an old thread - wasn't sure where to put this. Will this feature come to recording in Multitrack? I'd love to be able to insert record and have the clips on all tracks bump forward to make room for the new recorded clip. This would help with crafting and editing dialogue in multitrack.
