P: Brush lags with hi-dpi mice, smooth with trackpad

A client of mine had reported this earlier and I thought it couldn't be possible, but just tested it across machines and it is easily replicable. Working with high resolution images in Camera Raw, the adjusment brush lags several seconds behind when using external mice, switching to the trackpad on the same operation (without closing the file or removing the mouse) works smoothly. I'm guessing it has to do with the polling rate and spacing that is normally adjustable in Photoshop.

How big a raw (and can you perhaps provide one to test via Dropbox or similar)?

Logitech G600, it is a high dpi, high polling mouse. The problem is not surprising, it is the same issue as having too small a spacing percentage on regular pixel brushes in photoshop, it is trying to draw too many over a short period of time. Since there isn't a spacing setting for camera raw, it would be good for it to scale it automatically (or offer an option)

Sounds like maybe a Logitech issue but I'm wondering if you find any difference in speed disabling the GPU in PS prefs.

No, it happens with any and all high dpi mice. Disabling GPU acceleration helps with the brush drawing specifically but slows down everything else.

I expect that would do so, but it is interesting that it helps with brush drawing indicating this is tied to the GPU in some way. That's a rather new product (M1) and maybe it is some kind of bug either with the high DPI mice and/or Photoshop.

Edit: just a thought for ACR: Try a Reset of the Camera Raw preferences: Hold down the Command key and select Photoshop > Preferences > Camera Raw (macOS). Any difference?

Since I have a new Macbook Pro M1 (2021) two tools in Camera Raw are very slow.

The brush tool inside the mask-tool and the retouch-tool (in German Makel entfernen).

In Photoshop all tools work fast, but not in Camera Raw.
What can be the problem?

Try resetting the Camera Raw preferences:
Hold down the Command key and select Photoshop > Preferences > Camera Raw (macOS) or hold down the Ctrl key and select Edit > Preferences > Camera Raw (Windows).
Click Yes in the dialog that asks "Delete the Camera Raw Preferences?"

Bridge does not yet have native support for the M1 processors. Photoshop does. Since Camera Raw runs inside a host appliation, it runs under Rosetta in Bridge on M1, and it should be faster in Photoshop than in Bridge on an M1.Please try opening the raw file in Camera Raw using Photoshop instead of Bridge. Instead of  using cmd+R to open the photo(s) in Bridge-hosted Camera Raw, try cmd+O to open in Photoshop-hosted Camera Raw. Please let us know if it is more reponsive this way. 

Thank you for sharing the video. I see that the mask brush and clone brush feedback lags behind your rapid scribbing on the photo by a second or two. Is the lag a problem when you are when you are uusing the tool normally, as opposed to scribbling quickly all over the photo? I see the photo has a large number of spot heal corrections and multiple masks. As the number and complexity of the corrections increases performance may start to lag somewhat because Camera Raw has to do more work. I suspect that running Camera Raw in Photoshop with native support for the M1 may help in this case where the photo has fairly heavy edits.

The amount of alibism you guys at adobe have, is incredible. There are numerous posts with this exact topic and issue, where tools inside ACR on Mac are incredibly slow.

Every time someone tells to reset preferences in ACR.

Spoiler alert - it does NOT help.

What helps is disabling HW acceleration. This is, however, only workaround which is bad, because you don't have scrubby zoom and it's slower.

Recently, someone posted a solution which actually works. You just need a crappy mouse with less DPI, as this happens mostly with more sensitive mouse.
