P: Many metadata fields in CR3 files not imported

[Update: LR 7.3.1 doesn't import a number a metadata fields from .CR3 files that are read from other raw formats, including the GPS fields, XMP:Rating, XMP:Title, EXIF:ImageDescription, EXIF:UserComment.  See below for more details.

Dear community,

I own a new Canon EOS M50 and took a lot of GPS tagged pictures in my last holiday. Lightroom is importing the CR3 files without any problems, but I miss the GPS position. If I look to the files with the tool of Canon I see, that the position where the picture was taken, is inside of the file. Even if I export the pic to a jpg and import it then to Lightroom I have the position - but I like to have the raw file.

So far I found no way to display the position in combination with the CR3 file. I could put it in manually for each file, but therefor these are to many.

I already double-checked the import parameters and no preset was applied, so I guess this is obviously still an issue of the cr3 implementation in the camera raw module.

Here a link to an example file: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AtdqMJFRUFadgrYafe8Xh8oe1NJ5fg

Maybe somebody has an idea or workaround... At least it should be known and be fixed in a future release.

Thanks and regards

Andreas

I am using the same profile and they look drastically different. I have tried reading up online and realize that Adobe does not have the R5 camera specific color profiles and people are either buying third party profiles that come close or building their own. I am not tech savvy at all and am very overwhelmed wit not being able to use any of my images from the R5. The files are simply unusable to me, they look horrible in many ways and regardless of adjustments I just can't get consistency in color tone or similar resemblance to my cr2 files.

Double-check in Develop's Basic panel that you are using the same Profile for the .cr2 and .cr3 files (e.g. Adobe Color).

I just realized vsco is no longer supported. I assume that buying any new presets should work with the new camera? Even without presets however I notice that the color is general is off in comparison to my CR2 files - should I be adjusting something else in Lightroom settings? Now that I work with both my Canon Mark III smd thr R5, I can't seem to get consistency across all of my images? Thank you

@cedna todorovic VSCO presets came in two parts - a camera-specific profile and a preset for other settings. If the new camera came out after the last VSCO update, there are no VSCO camera-specific profiles, so the result will be different. The solution would be for VSCO to create camera-specific profiles for the new cameras, but of course, they're no longer updating.

Hello,

I am not a tech savvy person and desperately need some help. I have quite a few presets/actions I have purchased over the years from VSCO and others which I have used to edit my photos in Lightroom. They worked great with my CR2 files however recently I purchased the Canon R5 and all the presets look terrible and/or don't work. The colors are off, so is contrast, etc...What am I missing. I was told by someone to set the profile to Adobe Standard V2 but I can't seem to find it. Any help would be much appreciated.

Lightroom Classic CC 7.5 was released today and should address this issue.  If you don’t see the update in your Creative Cloud App, hit the [Ctrl/Cmd]+ [Alt/Opt]+[R] to force a refresh.

Give the new version a try and let us know if it solves the issue.

"I do use a metadata preset, but it only adds copyright info."

A common mistake is to check the GPS box in the metadata preset editor while leaving the field empty (see the screenshot):

This clears the GPS field. So edit your metadata import preset and make sure GPS is unchecked;

Hi Anthony,

Could you share a test file and your metadata preset file to keniya@adobe.com?

Metadata Preset can be found here
Mac - ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom/Metadata Presets
Win - %appdata%\Adobe\Lightroom\Metadata Presets

My CR3 files containing GPS data are not being read by Lightroom CC Classic 7.4.  :(Additional info: I do use a metadata preset, but it only adds copyright info. I'm using the CR3 files with compression (a new feature with the M50).
