How to 'activate' Camera Raw 15.1 in Photoshop 2023?

Hi Community

I recently bought the Panasonic Lumix TZ-202D (the D at the end is important!). I found out, that the Raw files of this camera need at least Camera Raw 15.0, my Photoshop Elements 2022 contained only version 14 something. So, I downloaded the latest version 15.1 for Windows 10, restarted my notebook, started Photoshop 2022... but these Raw files could still not be edited. So I bought Photoshop Elements 2023, but this also comes with Raw 14 only!

How do I tell Photoshop Elements 2023 to open the Raw files with the latest Camera Raw version 15.1? When I use the option 'Help > Install Camera Raw', nothing seems to happen; I still have Camera Raw 14 which is linked to Photoshop.

Your help is much appreciated; thanks a lot.

Best wishes for a happy New Year

Kurt

Adobe Camera Raw for Photoshop and Elements differ. Did you specifically download a newer Adobe Camera Raw that is for Elements?

See: https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/multi/camera-raw-differences-photoshop-photoshop.html

You should ask in the Photoshop Elements forum about the latest versions of Adobe Camera Raw for that product and camera support.

You could also try using the free Adobe DNG converter with an older version of Adobe Camera Raw for Elements.

Hello thedigitaldog

Thank you very much for your swift reply and for your suggestions.

I have now started a free trial of the Adobe Creative Cloud. There, I can use Photoshop and I am able to edit the Raw pictures of my new camera.

So, for me, this problem is solved.

Cheers,

Kurt

Dear Jeff

Thank you so much; that was exactly what I was looking for! I just followed those steps, and now PS Elements 2023 opens with the latest Camera Raw version and I can edit the Raw files! 🙂

Which means that I can terminate my trial version of Adobe Creative Cloud...

Thanks again and best wishes

Kurt

What about this? I have the Ps 2023 newly installed and it comes with the ACR 14.1 as we know. The CR filter doesn't show in the Filter menu. I installed the 15.1.1. Still no sign of the filter in said menu. I can open NEF files and adjust them but only with the basic CR adjustment tools, so no cropping, masking, tilting, selecting,... No tools on the upper and/or right hand side. Looks like every turorial tells me to go to my preferences menu but not one reference about ACR or RAW files to be found. What is wrong? Photoshop elements does not have Filter>Camera Raw Filter inside of the photoshop element editor, that's only in photoshop cc.

Likewise the photoshop elements version of acr has many less features than the acr version in photoshop cc, so what your seeing in your acr version is correct for photoshop elements.
