P: (Technology Preview) Generative Expand (CR)

This post is to collect in-app customer feedback from Camera Raw for the Technology Preview of the Generative Expand feature. 

Generative Expand seamlessly blends the edges of your existing image with newly generated content that naturally fits into the background without taking away from your photo’s original subject. Some use cases for Generative Expand are:

• Expand the canvas for images that were accidentally cropped 
• Fill in the edges of a panorama 
• Adjust the aspect ratio of a photo for social media 

This feature is currently a Technology Preview, and we are still working to ensure it meets your needs. We'd love to hear what it does well, what it doesn't do well, and how you'd like it to work.

ACR 17 - generative expand does not maintain noise levels as before expanding. Areas of expansion appear smeared. This is not happening is PS wherby content aware fill does not change the level of noise.

When generating additional variations, the previous variations disappear making it impossible to go back and keep one of those. Thanks.

Auto geometry does not work on multiple images
All images are set as the first, instead of individually analysed and set accordingly.

Can we not have your Ai models reject Ai Expand on Nude Models please?  That would be great! 

All im doing is expanding my backdrops.  Its quite frustrating to use these Ai tools when I'm paying a company to use their tools but their tools tell me to kick rocks when im using those tools cause they dont "follow the guidelines"

Due to the low resolution, Genrative Expand in CR is currently unusable for serious work. Hope there will be appropriate resolution soon.

I can't see the Crop & Expand panel when I'm in Camera Raw. Also, the Generative Expand option in greyed out. It's the same in both versions of Photoshop. I'm in 8-bit and RGB mode. I've also checked the New Features in the Preferences.

Are you referring to the Camera Raw filter which is accessed from Photoshop? Crop is not available using the filter.

You have to turn on the technology previews in the Camera RAW prefences right at the bottom of the preferences list not in the main program settings/preferences. There is now two "technology previews" since ACR 17 update.

When using Generative Expand after a geometry correction has been done in ACR 17 on images taken with canon RF lenses where the lens distortions are forced on ie RF 24-240 which overscanes the image you get black corners in the generative expand part of the image. Even if then yopu go to the remove tool they will not get replaced. I have now seen it on multiple images.  Does not do it on the lenses where the distortion corrections are not forced on by manufacturer. These lenses also caused problems early on with lens corrections with black corners showing. I can understand generative expand doing this due to the way it wll look at whole image probably before optics corrections but .... I do not understand why problem carries over to the generative remove tool even if the area you tell it to replace is quite large. If you need RAW files taken with problem lenses I am happy to supply.

Can we please have "Crop" tool in the Camera Raw Filter? I know that it is there in the Camera Raw app but in the filter it is missing. Please do the needful. Thank you !!

In ACR I had to regenerate because I then denoised. I don't like what it regenerated. The "Generate" button is grayed out and it's not giving me 3 choices any more. How do I regen?

The generative expansion was so bad that it was laughable! instead of expanding the background, it started creating frames and random weird patterns in mono colours. Wild Imagination 100%, accuracy and usefullness 0%!

It would be great if the tool could refer to what is present in adjacent images in the set in its result or if it could be told "like this" (like in Photoshop), for example, so that the interface would allow you to select from adjacent images and highlight the relevent area. For example, in an image where my son's shoes were cut out and in the previous images in the burst were not cut out, because he ran out of frame - it would be great if I could get the same type of shoes on the first try.

First, the tool needs to be smoother around the edges, you can see clearly where de original image ended and where the "patch" begins. Secondly, it should respect the modifications made previously, such as noise, or in my case, I noticed that a patch I had applied, was skipped, without considering it, giving an extremely horrible result.

Generative expand result mostly unusable, terrible resolution, sometimes look artefact and not match with the surrounding. Better to delete and using other method of generative, something you have options and many times better quality

The ability to correct converging verticals has disappeared from Photoshop and RAW. How do I get it back?
