I have been advised by my lecturer to buy version 2 as it is ideal for first time users. Secondly amazon is selling without an operating system. Will it run on my MacBook Pro 2017 model Touch Bar sierra 10.13. Please advise before I spend $347. Thanks. Charley Cain

It may be possible to find Captivate 2, but it never was released in a Mac version. Moreover that version which is over 10 years old, will not even be compatible with a contemporary version of Windows which you would have to run on your Macbook (Parallels). It would just be a waste of money... That version only could have output to SWF, which will soon disappear from all browsers I wonder which type of lecturer you have

Agree what lecturer would suggest such an outdated version - that is a total disservice to you.

Are you not entitled to an education version? It depends on the institution and the country, but if you can buy such a license, it will not be much more expensive than the price you mention for that CP2 version. As a former professor I really don't understand the claim of your lecturer, will not use instulting words but I feel very angry and upset.
If you cannot buy an education license, you could opt for a subscription license.
Last possibility, having a complimentary license for a couple of months, would be by participating in the eLearning portal and try to reach the minimum score level. Not so easy since you did never use Captivate, but you can always download the trial version which is fully functional for 1 month. Published project with that trial version will also expire after 1 month.

Hi Libybiri
Thank you so much for your feedback to date. I am really interested in mastering adobe captivate. I have not purchased as yet but would like to know what is the best and most cost effective way to learn how to use the software.
I am retired but still have to work and would like to do design work for organisations. I have been involved in learning and development and human resource development for many years.
Hope to hear from you soon as it is convenient for.
Thank you.
Regards
Charley

I am always very careful with that type of questions, due to my past career as professor in a university college. 'Mastering' is such a big word, which is used so lightlly by many book authors and trainers. Just a warning: based on my experience as consultant and trainer, there is a lot of bad training and courseware around. You don't learn to use a multi-featured application like Captivate by repeating step-by-step tutorials, whether in a book or in a video. They can help you when you don't remember the steps but they'll ot help you understanding the real core. Of course that is just my personal opinion. I never did take any training for Captivate, looked at some books and was so disgusted about them that I just plunged into the application and experimented. When starting I used thsi forum by asking questions when I was stuck. But very soon I started trying to answer questions and that was my way of learning Captivate. This worked for me, had already lot of experience with other software applications, including other Adobe apps. Having a background as professor helped of course but that seems to be OK for you as well.
You can have a look at my view on the three most important features to understand and be able to use in this blog post
Challenges for Starters - Captivate blog
When I coach a basic training, I create a Captivate vile, explaining those 3 points as well. That file is not published, because I mostly have to train in Dutch or French.
For the firstt stumbling block, TImeline, I created many articles, and will present again in April (DC). Here is an interactive movie, based on such a presentation (created with Captivate, I never use another tool for presentations, webinars, tutorials); I simply find it weird that so few training is around made with Captivate.

I would never spend more than $1 for any software that was 8 versions behind the current.
Glad you asked here. Buyer beware.
