Hello,
wondering if it is possible to add an animation effect to grouped objects? I am currently using Captivate 9.
Many thanks!
Lauren

Yes, you can. I've just created an example: https://youtu.be/__6D-ad9iNU

Be careful: at this moment you cannot have individual effects for objects in a group. When you group objects all individual effects get lost. Another tip: as you probably know the reference point for effects is the center of the bounding box. This is also valid for grouped objects: it is the center of the bounding box surrounding the group which is the reference point.

I really wish there was a warning box letting you know that if you group an object with an animation it will be removed. Just lost a lot of time having to ungroup and animate everything all over again.

Has this been proposed as a desired feature? Individual object animations are great and powerful, but so is the ability to have organization to your project in grouping. Why are things an either-or with Captivate? I want my cake and eat it too.

Yes, Adobe is quite aware of this feature request.

Adobe claims that "You can apply effects on a group of objects as well as to individual objects in a group". Clearly this is not the case, or have I missed something. I am using Captivate 9.0.2.437

It is not the case, that is wrong information: either you have an effect on the group, where the reference point will be the center point of the bounding box surrounding the group, or you have individual effects. If you have effects on individual objects, and you group them, all effects will be lost without warning. Where did you find that claim? I remember once a blog was posted with this misinformation and I replied to it with exactly what I told here.
In this blog post I used the effect applied to a group as a workaround for the fact that you cannot change the reference point for effects which is a real limiation:
