Bookmarking without 'Continue from where you stopped last time?' popup

Hey,

I have been searching the forums and playing around with Captivate for a couple of days to try and find a solution to my problem, but I'm not coming up with any relevant answers.

I am very uninspired by the look of the default Captivate dialog window that pops up when I return to a lesson. It's the one that asks 'Continue from where you stopped last time?'

I've seen suggestions as to how to change the captions and the colours, but I can't find a way to just disable it and have the lesson resume from where the user stopped. I've tried turning off self-paced learning but this disables bookmarking all together.

I'm using the latest version of Captivate 9.

Any help would be appreciate.

Thanks,

Guy

They will be accessing it via an LMS. After many hours messing around I'm thinking the only options available to me are to use the built in TOC which comes with the annoying dialog, or don't use the TOC and this should allow the LMS to handle the bookmarking and auto resume where the user left off.

Is this what everyone else is observing?

How will your learners be accessing the course? If you're using an LMS, most provide bookmarking automatically.

I think you will find that the "annoying dialog" doesn't appear when you are using LMS bookmarking, even though you DO have the TOC turned on and visible.  It's one of the frequent complaints on this forum that this dialog DOES NOT appear when a project is set to report to an LMS.  So I suggest you give it a go, still with the TOC visible, and see what happens.

Thanks RodWard.

I may be missing something. I am just selecting that I was Captivate to report to an LMS with SCORM 1.2. I'm not changing any settings beyond that right now. Is that the setting you are talking about when you say 'using LMS bookmrking'?

By the way, I should have specified that I am exporting to HTML5, not flash.

Thanks for the help!

As far as I am aware, selecting any of the LMS reporting options seems to disable that popup dialog from Self-paced Learning (perhaps because some LMSs also have their own popup bookmarking dialog and Adobe didn't want end users having to deal with two of them because that would definitely become annoying and confusing).

I don't think it matters whether you are exporting to HTML5 or Flash.  LMS bookmarking relies on information delivered to the LMS from the course content via JavaScript calls.  It's not reliant on Flash.

Hey, just an update. I've turned off TOC and I am no longer seeing the dialog and bookmarking is still working. Since TOC its own issues with freezing I'm just going to remove it.

Thanks for the help!

I am using Captivate 2017 and have selected self paced learning in the TOC. I am not using any LMS but i am going in and out of the learning module to complete independent quizzes. When I come back I am always forced to start at the beginning of the learning module. I am publishing in HTML5, I used the same approach in my previous version which was published as flash and worked beautifully.

Have you tested this issue in different browsers?

Have you tested the content from a web server?  (HTML5 should always be on a web server, not played from a local drive.)

Hi Rod,

I have not tested it on a web server yet, I am using my local drive so far. I have another question, but it might be related to the drive as well: The first slide of my training module includes audio which should start automatically but is not, I have to manipulate my playbar controls. I have it set up under options and have a wave audio clip. my other slides inside the module start automatically as they should. I have practice modules where I have videos embedded in the first slide, again the video (mp4) does not start automatically, however later video clips start as they should.

Thanks

Which browser did you use? AutoPlay has been banned from the Chrome browser, as you can read in many threads everywhere. Learn to live with AutoPlay turned off, look at:

https://elearning.adobe.com/2018/03/get-rid-white-start-screen-black-button-html-output/

Moreover avoid heavy audio clips on a first slide, they have to be loaded on top of all what has already to be load when starting a course. Same tip about a complicated advanced action; never on first slide.
