Captivate version 12 allows you only to create responsive projects which means you lose some control.
Can you give some more details? Which container did you use to insert the 'text box' (not an official term in Captivate)? What did you select when you tried to delete: the text item or the container? Some containers have multiple items, which you can take out by unchecking a check box in the Properties. I can only give more details if I know which container you used. Sometimes it is easier to see the selection clearly in the Timeline panel.

Lily, thank you for your reply. After creating a blank slide, I simply inserted the first image media block, as pictured here. I only want one line of text, hence my inability to delete the alphanumeric container holder (text box), by either selecting it and hiting delete, or right clicking and deleting, or selecting it in the timeline and doing either. How can I remove it, and why is this simple action not easy and obvious?

OK! Indeed, 'intuitive' has a different meaning for you and me as for those who developed this version. I also would grab the Timeline, but that doesn't work here. Try this:
Sorry for my sarcastic words. Know that I have many decades of experience as teacher/coach/trainer and have a quite different idea about 'intuitive' and the importance of a clear terminology. Moreover I have two decades of experience with Captivate and now should 'UN'learn all what thousands of hours of exploring and testing have taught me.

Okay Lily. That worked. Thank you. As for your sarcasm, I'm good with that, especially since I was a bit snarky. I'm doing my best to learn Captivate after decades using software of all types and calling a text-box, well, a text-box. Apprecaite you. Ken

Captivate had two types of text containers: caption and shape, and also the interactive Text Entry Box.... you see why I sometimes seem confused. The classic Captivate has only Object styles, the new one has only the old HTML text styles. Hence the mix of Heading/Title/Caption but that is not making it easy for a trainer/trainee.
BTW why not mark the correct workflow as being a correct answer? I am sure more users have the same idea abot 'intuitive' and looking out for that new type of workflows.
