I am trying to come up with a way that allows a user to save their certificate (created using the widget in Captivate 4) if they don't immediately have access to a printer. Is there some code I could attach to a button?

What about printing to a pdf-document? There are a lot of free PDF-writers around.

Hello There, I am experiencing this same dilemma.  The tutorial I am working on generates a certificate that students can print.  But the students need to be able to save an electronic copy so they can electronically submit their certificates to various instructors.

Has there been anything developed, such as a "save" widget, since this original conversation?

We have over 7,000 users, and would like the process to be easier than that. Is there action script I can use that would enable the certificate to be saved as a PDF or graphic file rather than printing?

Hello,

Printing to a pdf is the same as saving a pdf, as far as I'm aware of? A pdf to me is really a digital print (or an exact image of the pages in a file).

I think Lilybiri is correct. While you have a certificate in the CP file, it's now a SWF image. It's not a document you can save.

Best solution, I'd agree, would be to have PDF 'printers' installed for all users so they could print to that instead of to a 'real' printer.

Not ideal perhaps... But maybe your IT folks can 'push out' a PDF printer for their users - that's not an uncommon requirement and is likely possible. However, if you've lots of folks outside the corporate network, that may not be so effective...

I assume users are not taking this lesson through an LMS? Often the LMS handles the certificate aspect. And even if it did not, it could offer users a way to resume the lesson so they see their certificate next time the relaunch it...when they have access to a printer.

Thanks for your responses. Actually we are delivering the course through Adobe Connect. The workaround we have discovered is when printing the certificate, choose Microsoft XPS Document Writer as the printer, and you can open the file that creates in Adobe Acrobat Reader. Works for our users' configuration, but may not be an option for some.
