Captivate 2019/Classic Crashing on Mac

Hi,

My Captivate 2019 keeps crashing--either on Open or shortly thereafter.

The Crash report often refers to the adobe_licutil process and then it states the Captivate version number as

Version:  11.0.0.34 (11.0.0.34)

Other crash reports refer only to  Adobe Captivate as the process and state the Captivate version number as "11.5.5.678" ( 11,5,5,678 ).

I have another CC account (through work for other Adobe products) but I ensured I was logged out of it and logged into my CC desktop with the account that manages Captivate.

I tried "CleanPreferencesMac" and other suggestions I found online.

The only thing I have not tried is uninstalling and reinstalling Captivate.

Any suggestions?

I see that you are on a Mac computer.  Your crashing has probably started because something else on your system got updated and now there are incompatibilities with drivers or the underlying operating system.   The versions of Captivate 2019 that you mention are quite old.

You should definitely do a full uninstall and reinstall of Captivate, preferably with the latest version of Cp 2019 available from Adobe.  Make sure you select the option to also remove any preferences.

Thank you so much for your quick reply.

I am running 2019 (version 11.5.5.678), but the only update option is to Captivate Classic (version 11.8.3).  I have projects dating back ten years that I was still doing the occasional edit on.  Will I still be able to open them all in Classic?

Does Classic have any limitations--or is it essentially just an update of 2019?

I much appreciate your help!

If that's the case then I would first try to reinstll Captivate 11.5 before upgrading to Captivate 8.

If the reason that Captivate 11.5 stopped working is that your current MacOS operating system version is no longer compatible with Captivate then even when you uninstall you will find it doesn't work.  Upgrading to 11.8 might be the only way to get a working Captivate version.

However, I cannot guarantee that even the current version of Captivate that you had would be able to open projects that were on Captivate 7, 8 or 9.  Hopefully at some point you had opened all of those older projects and upgraded them to a recent version of Captivate., e.g. Captivate 2019.  If you have done that, then you should still be able to open the CPTX project files in Cp 11.8, but you will find that after you upgrade to 11.8 any colleague of yours still on an older Captivate version would be unable to open those same files.  This is because Cp 11.8 made quite a few changes to the internal architecture of Captivate and also removed or disabled all the SWF / Flash related features.

LATEST

I am having the same issue today - exactly the same.

Months ago when I experienced similar, I was advised by Adobe that I had 2 options: either purchase the subscription model which would include the 2019 version now called Captivate Classic or forgo any of the Mac upgrades as the Captivate Classic would no longer be compatible. Seems the perpetual license I purchased is no longer perpetual... as today I am unable to open captivate without it crashing immediately and receiving the same adobe_licutil process error message. It is pretty ridiculous.
