Windows 7 x64
So after a reformat I installed captivate 5 trial, it just seems to hang when i try to start it. Windowa 7 is all up to date. Captivate 5 is runnin as admin,
but when i click the icon to open the preloading screen comes up and says "Loading..." and nothing else I can leave it as so for a while and it will not change or open at all.
this is after about 8 minutes
I was having the same issue where it would hang on Loading...
I tried everything including a couple of uninstall/reinstalls. Nothing from the forums I saw worked. I finally ran a debug on the hang and it looked like a font load might be the problem. I used Font Frenzy to revert my Font directory back to basics and Captivate fired up. I then put back the fonts I needed.
It looks like I most likely had a bad font file that caused the lockup. I'm assuming this is why some people are having to re

Hello,
Perhaps a stupid question, could you just page (alt-tab) through open windows to see if there isn't another dialog open from CP5? I was thinking about the warning about starting up as an administrator, that is waiting for you to close. If CP5 is the only app on your desktop, this cannot be the reason, but if you are used to have a lot of apps open (like me) this could be the reason. From your screenshot I do not see another app, but the dialog box could be hidden by the welcome screen. Just check.

PS: please do not forget to launch as administrator, right click on Adobe Captivate 5 and choose 'Run as administrator'

that dialoge had been coming up and I also close it. I have been attempting to run as Admin and still nothing happens. I left it for hours while I slept to open and still just the preloading screen by the time I woke. I was not running much of anything at the time. I have 8GB of RAM and a 700GB hard drive, with much more than 500GB free. I've done virus scans, disk cleanup and disk defragments, yet the issue presses on.

Hi There,
Do you have any CS5 Suites installed? Can you also check the Task Manager and see the memory consumption? I'd like to have a remote connect session to investigate further based on your reply.
Thanks,
Vish

Hi There,
Can you please go through http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/845/cpsid_84586.html and see if it helps. Please mail me back at viswanat@adobe.com with the results so that we can decide on the connect session?

I am having the SAME exact problem and can not seem to find a solution.
I downloaded the trial of Captivate 5, and when I double click the icon to launch it, it just hangs and says "Loading..." but never loads, eventually I click on the Captivate logo, and an error box comes up stating the program must close. I am using Windows 7 64 bit with about 750GB of free space. Here is what I have tried thus far:
And still Captivate 5 will not launch. I did get it to open once, the first time I replaced the UpdaterNotification32bit file and restarted, but once I closed it, it went right back to the same problem. Any suggestions?

Hello There,
Can you please send your installer log files to viswanat@adobe.com? They are present in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Installers, send the latest file from there.
Thanks,
Vish

So I have had to reformat several times just so i can use captivate 5
I even went back to just using Vista x64 and after an update and reboot it decided to hang again this is like not long after i finished reformatting.
On another occasion I ran tune up utilities 2010 and after words it didnt want to work anymore
and on another after a new program was installed it refused to work anymore. Frankly, I give up on Captivate 5. Keeping it running has just become too much work. Iam glad I used the trial first at least.

I am having the same issue on WIN XP 32; Except that the spash screen has an empty white rectangle in the center where the Product information should be.
The program is using 50% of the processor. I also had a problem with JAVA updates failing, at about the same time. Are these two related?

Other people have reported success with Captivate issues after updating to newer versions of Java.
So it couldn't hurt to try and resolve the Java update issue first and then see if Cp behaves better.

Hello There,
As Rod suggested, you can try installing Java Update and if it doesn't help can try deleting the preferences located at C:\Documents and Settings\<Username>\local settings\application data\adobe\captivate 5 and check whether it launches. Please mail me at viswanat@adobe.com and we can investigate this further.
Thanks,
Vish

It looks like I most likely had a bad font file that caused the lockup. I'm assuming this is why some people are having to reformat and reinstall Windows. That would fix the Font corruption issue at the cause.
Hope this helps a few people. I know it was an annoying couple of days with a deadline looming.

Patrick Rasure, I officially name u our savior LOL
5 months have passed since I posted this here and finally I have an answer that not only makes sense but works. I did exactly as you did and it runs just perfectly now. Thank You. I also found using FontFrenzy u can simple click "tools" and "repair font folder" Instead of removing and then re adding all ur fonts again

Thank you. I followed your suggestion and used FontFrenzy to clear up all the unnecessary fonts that clogged up the system. Fired up Adobe Captivate and it started perfectly.
Thumbs up!
