I recently upgraded to Captivate 6 and re-created a quiz that is SCORM-compliant. When I publish the project, the file size is really small and a brief, blank video appears when I play the quiz. (Note: I have to publish the zip files, but there is still no data even when I just publish .swf). The same problem occurs with any project I try to publish from 6. For this particular project, I have a quiz pool activated.
When trying to view the published project in the web browser, a dialogue box says there is a JavaScript error and the LMS API cannot be located. I have one line of Java code in the project, but the same message appears with non-Java projects as well. I'm not sure what this means and have checked the settings.

How are you setting up the lesson so it is SCORM-compliant?
You've gone through all the Quiz Preference settings and set all the SCORM options?
When you publish the project to a .zip file, open the .zip package and what files does it contain? Is there an imsmanifest.xml file?
If you see an 'No API' error when viewing online....on the one hand, that would indicate the package is properly setup as it's looking for an LMS API when it starts...which is a good thing...
On the other hand, I've not seen Captivate do that in a while - if launched outside an LMS, it never alerts me that it can't find the API....it just doesn't then plays the lesson anyway.
Can you put the project online and provide a link for us to review it?

Thanks so much for responding, Erik. Unfortunately, I have to check with my supervisor before posting the project online, but will hopefully know the answer soon. Here is a screenshot of the full contents of what is included in the zip file.
In Captivate, I've configured the SCORM settings through the Quiz Preferences, something I've done with earlier versions of Captivate countless times. I've also never had a problem uploading to SCORM Cloud. SCORM Cloud reads and accepts the .zip file, but similarly displays a blank project.

Hi Erin,
Try publishing it on any other LMS.
Scorm Cloud will be a good option. Its Free, just sign up and upload the project.
Thanks

Here is a screenshot of the Quiz Reporting Preferences
Clarification: I'm not trying to publish to an LMS just yet. I currently use SCORM Cloud and am just configuring the project to be SCORM-compliant. However, a blank project, without any quizzing or reporting elements, doesn't publish correctly either. I can't even get the projects to publish to a lone .swf file. I should note that I have published using Captivate 6 successfully before. It stopped working about a week ago. . .
Do I need to re-install?

De/reinstall may not be a bad idea... If you do, be sure to deregister CP first, then deinstall...
When you put it on a 'regular' webserver, you try to access the .htm file directly?
And you get the 'no API' error...then nothing?
Maybe before the whole de/reinstall, open the current CP project, copy all slides, close the project, create a new one, and paste.
Don't worry about the size and settings yet - just paste all slides, setup basic publishing, publish, and test on the regular webserver.
Does it work?

One thing I just thought to ask: Are you using only all publish templates exactly as installed by Cp6, or have you by any chance substituted some of the templates with other modified ones (perhaps those revamped by Pipwerks)?

Hello,
I just downloaded the Scorm Cloud Trial and published a Captivate 6 project with a video attached. I can see it on an iPhone, but it is very unstable.
I have another question though. When I launch the tutorial from my desktop for some reason it starts playing from the second slide which has the video inserted. Any reason why this would work like this?
Thanks
ali

Hi Erin,
As it was working a week back, I presume that you preferences might be corrupted. Can you try deleting preferences? May I know what do you mean by unstable on iPhone? Can you try to reproduce the issue with any other sample project, which you can share with us? You can upload to Acrobat.com and send me the link sankaram@adobe.com
Thanks,
Sankaram
Captivate Engg Team.

Hi Erin,
I am new to 6.0 and have the exact same error. Did you ever resolve the issue? Like you, I am not ready to upload to an LMS yet. However, if I clear the error, the content does not display in the browser properly. Our development process includes a pre-LMS review. It appears that if I disable tracking for the project, I can use a web browser to view the published content.
Can you share anything that may have worked for you?

Hi Susan -
Since this disaster, I have sought answers through Adobe support, forums, random searches, etc. The answer I received was the it was a system bug that had already been noted and would be addressed with the next update. If you're using a PC, the update has already been released and should fix a lot of these problems. I, however, am still waiting on the Mac update.
I was able to produce a version that I was able to upload to SCORM. Unfortunately, it's been so long that I can't remember how I was able to do that. Ironically, I just tried re-publishing the source file and it isn't working now.
On the bright side, I now need to fix my project, so I'll have to remember what we did.
I'll keep you posted.

"It appears that if I disable tracking for the project, I can use a web browser to view the published content."
So while not ideal, this seems to be the key for now, right? If not loading into an LMS, and disabling the tracking gets you an otherwise functional preview of the piece...all is well...for now.
So if you enable tracking, the best way to test is, of course, in an LMS. Try a SCORM Cloud account (basic is free) or a free trial with some other LMS provider (i.e. www.inquisiq.com). Does that work? If so, all good! If not, then there's an issue to resolve.
Also note there is a patch/update for Captivate 6 now...currently Windows-only, but if that's your platform, do that...

Thanks, Eric.
Yes, I just installed last week, and the install included the patch.
My thought now is that it really isn't a problem, but more a change in how the product works for 6.0. I will be uploading to an LMS eventually and have done so in the past.
