After a completely horrific download experience of Captivate 8 to the Mac (why is an Akamai download manager needed especially when it doesn't work and Adobe knows this and requires me to download Firefox to perform a manual download?!), I finally got a DMG that took 5 minutes to install (why does other large program software for the Mac install in seconds?) and presented a dialog with a Launch button. Press Launch ... nothing. Go to my Applications Folder, find Adobe Captivate 8 menu and select Adobe Captivate app - yup you guessed it - nothing. Anyone else run into this? and have a solution? TIA.
Hi There,
I apologize for the inconvinience caused.
Yes, it is must to have Java installed in the system to run Captivate as it uses Java during compilation when you generate swf file. I can see that it is missing in system requirements and thank you for pointing it out . I will make sure to get the Tech Specs updated as soon as possible.
You must click on "install" and install Java as it will also help you in many other applications that uses Java to run.
Apologizies for the inconvinienvce.
Regards

I'm having the same problem! Except I'm trying to run it on 64bit Windows 7.
Just downloaded Captivate 8 64bit this morning, but when I try to open the programme it just crashes straight away.

Hi There,
Does it give any error message while crashing? Can you try doing : Right Click Captivate icon > Run as Administrator and check if it still crashes? If the issue persists can you try pluging uot the network cable and try launching Captivate 8.

Mayank

Hi There,
Sorry for the inconvinience.
Can you please tell me the version of MAC OS you are using?
Could you recreate the preferences of Adobe Captivate 8?
The location is: ~/Library/Preferences/Adobe Captivate 8, rename Adobe Captivate 8 to Adobe Captivate 8_old and then try to launch Captivate 8 again.

Mayank

I don't know what "recreate the preferences" means or how to do that.

I navigate to the preferences directory but there is no directory for Captivate. It appears the prefs are created on initial startup which I cannot do.

I've manage to solve my issue - Captivate wouldn't open because of conflicting fonts installed on my machine. Once I removed all my additional fonts it opened fine - now I have the slow process of putting them back one by one until I find the conflicting file.

I have an update: there was a dialog popping up I did not see indicating I need a Java Runtime but I am reluctant to do so for security reasons. I also don't see that requirement for Java on the Requirements page at Adobe: Tech Specs - eLearning, mobile learning & Training Software | Adobe Captivate 8
