Captivate keeps crashing on Mac when Question pool is opened

New Here ,
Dec 07, 2024 Dec 07, 2024

I have recently downloaded Captivate on an M1 Mac and every time I try and open the Question Pool it crashes I have tried Adobe support but the AI bot is useless so I put my crash report into Co-Pilot and it gave me this. Everything is up to date, I feel that this is a useless piece of software and that I have been ripped of as it wil cost me the rest of the year's subscription to cancel it!!!

The crash report for Adobe Captivate indicates that the application crashed due to an uncaught exception. Here are the key details:

  1. Exception Type: EXC_BREAKPOINT (SIGTRAP)
  2. Exception Codes: 0x0000000000000001, 0x0000000191c6c228
  3. Termination Reason: Namespace SIGNAL, Code 5 Trace/BPT trap: 5
  4. Crashed Thread: CrBrowserMain (Dispatch queue: com.apple.main-thread)

Detailed Analysis:

  • The crash occurred in the main thread, specifically in the CrBrowserMain thread, which is part of the Chromium Embedded Framework used by Adobe Captivate.
  • The backtrace shows that the crash happened when the application was trying to handle an uncaught exception. This is evident from the call to -[NSApplication _crashOnException:] and -[NSApplication reportException:].
  • The exception was thrown by objc_exception_throw, indicating an Objective-C exception

Possible Causes:

  1. Toolbar Item Insertion: The crash seems to be related to inserting an item into an NSToolbar. This could be due to an invalid item identifier or an issue with the toolbar configuration.
  2. Chromium Embedded Framework: Since the crash occurred in the CrBrowserMain thread, it might be related to the integration of the Chromium Embedded Framework within Adobe Captivate.
  3. Uncaught Exception: The application did not handle an exception properly, leading to the crash.

Recommendations:

  • Update Adobe Captivate: Ensure you are using the latest version of Adobe Captivate, as updates often include bug fixes.
  • Check Toolbar Configuration: Review any custom toolbar items or extensions you may have added to ensure they are configured correctly.
  • Review Extensions and Plugins: If you are using any third-party extensions or plugins, try disabling them to see if the crash persists.
  • Contact Adobe Support: If the issue continues, consider reaching out to Adobe Support with the crash report for further assistance.

If you need any more help or have other questions, feel free to ask!
