Captivate Quiz Reporting to LMS for "Complete and Failed" Status

Community Beginner ,

Hello! I'm looking for input on the following case.

Version - Captivate Classic 11.8.3.8

Context - I'm developing a series of modules; each of them is a simulation assessment. In our LMS (TalentLMS), a course is set up as follows.

  • Intro
  • Sim Assessment Module 1 SCORM
  • Sim Assessment Module 2 SCORM
  • Sim Assessment Module 3 SCORM
  • ... (more same type of SCORM modules)
  • Summary

Within each module:

  • Sim assessment's each step is allowed 3 attempts.
  • Quiz Reporting is set as "Incomplete --> Passed/Failed" when "Quiz is Passed" at 100% (required by our program).
  • Quiz Pass or Fail is set as 100%; If Passing Grade, "Continue"; If Failing, Allow 1 Attempts, and "Continue".
  • (Screenshots of Quiz settings are attached.)

In the LMS, all is well if all of the modules are passed. However, when a module is failed, it was marked as "failed" and "incomplete". This results in the incompletion of the course, even when a learner has completed all of the required modules (with some being failed). The goal is to show "Complete and Failed" status.

I've worked with TalentLMS support and the result stays the same after trying various LMS setup options/combinations. So I would like to ask here if I have missed anything or if I have incorrectly set up the quiz reporting options in Captivate.

Any input/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

@mxdo ,

When using the SCORM 1.2 standard, there is only one status field that can be sent. That status field will contain one of: "incomplete", "completed", "passed", "failed". Ultimately, at the end of the course when a learner did not get a minimum passing score, the status is sent as "failed".  Now, it's up to the LMS to determine what to do.

When you are using the SCORM 2004 standard, there are two status fields that are sent. A "completion" status and a "success" status. The completion status is one of "incomplete", "completed". The success status is one of "passed", "failed". Because a learner could have a success status of "failed" - but that's because they've only answered one question so far. So, their completion status is "incomplete". Once the learner has answered all of the questions, the completion status would be sent as "completed", but the success status is based on their score. This is one of the only significant features (personal opinion) of SCORM 2004.

All of this is to say, you can try to change your settings to use SCORM 2004 and ensure the completion/success status parameters are configured properly in Captivate; and try again. That might help in TalentLMS.

Thank you, Andrew. Unfortunately, TalentLMS doesn't accept SCORM 2004.

You are not missing anything from Adobe Captivate. I would assume it is properly sending a "failed" status and TalentLMS isn't marking the module as "complete".
