Hi
I am capturing software demos in Demo, training and assessment modes. I am using smartshapes for captions.
In training mode, I want all my hint captions to be "Click here." and all my failure captions to be "Incorrect. Please try again." The failure caption for assessment should be "Incorrect. Please try again." However, by default, these are "Type hint text here" and Type failure text here."
Can I change these default texts? I found these texts in the strings.xml file of en_US folder and changed it. But that didn't help even after I restarted Captivate. Is there any other way?
Please advise.

Not sure if this option is still available, need to check it out.
Years ago we had a file with extension 'rdl' for each of the languages you could choose in the Preferences. That choice affected which of those files were used for capturing software simulations. They had all the texts used in those sims. Since I retired from the university college, I created only in English, and didn't check out those files anymore. They used to be in the installation folder, not in the en_US which is linked to the language of the Captivate app.
I mentioned this in a blog post, which has also a screenshot of those files in Explorer:

Changing RDL files is not working, Lieve. I even tried using text captions instead of smartshapes, hoping that it will work. But no.
Will continue to explore other files.

I think you find that changes to the RDL files only take effect on new CPTX project files, not ones that you have already started under previous versions of the files. This is because certain data is cached inside the structure of the project file when it is created and cannot be edited or changed after that point.
So, now that you have changed the RDL files, try creating a new fresh project file and see if your changes then appear.

Similar to changing the default labels for a quiz, this change will only apply to new captured slides, not to existing slides. I mention that in the blog post.
I forgot to ask if you are using the software sim feature in the new Captivate or in Captivate Classic. If my memory is correct, I think you are on that combination and no longer using cptx-files.
As I mentioned, I didn't check it out for those two versions. I just verified that the rdl-files are still present for that combi. However it is possible that they only work for the Classic Captivate, not for the new version. As it is also possible that this feature is broken for both? A lot is broken for localisation...
