Hi,

I have been trying for hours to get my click buttons to work in captivate 5. The click buttons are suppose to go to the url I entered, but they are not functioning at all. I have tried to get them to work in the .cptx and the .htm.  What am I doing wrong?

Thanks!

Thank you for responding.

I have read most of the forums on this site relating to my inquiry, but I haven't found a solution yet. I had checked and double checked everything including the security settings. I was thinking it could possible be the url link ending with .mas vs. the usual .htm or .html.

Where are you testing from? The security settings will most often block a URL if you are testing from your local drive immediately after you published. But if you are testing after uploading to a server and seeing the same behavior, Flash Security would have no sway.

Silly question time. Does the URL work before you attempt to link to it? Is it an open URL that you might tell us what it is so I can try from my end?

Cheers... Rick

Hi Rick,

Yes the url does work, its actually a url to downloadable content, so maybe that is my problem. When I click the button it does not even attempt to open a new internet page or tab.  I thought the issue was because I did not publish it to a server as well....so I tried it and unfortunately it is still not working.

Are you comfortable creating a basic HTML page? If so, here's what I would do to test.

Create a basic HTML page with a link to the same file. Upload it to your server. Display it and test the link. If it works, then I'd say we may be looking at Captivate as having an issue somewhere. But if it doesn't, it means something needs tweaking somewhere else. Could be that you forgot to upload the content. Could be that the file name is MyFile.ext and you are trying to open myfile.ext. (Note the case difference? That will come into play on a Unix type server.)

Happy to help. Does this mean you got it working? If so, what was the issue?

I haven't got it working yet, but I am just going to rework my whole tutorial. I was trying to link to a url with downloadable content. Other url's work in the captivate, so I am assuming it is something to do with the internal intranet and how it this particular url was set up.

Thanks Again.

Hello again

My reason for asking about the web page was because if for some reason you were unable to coax a direct link from Captivate to work, you could create an intermediate HTML page that you would link to instead. The intermediate page could perform the "heavy lifting" to start the download process.

Anyhoo, if you find something that works for you, terrific!

Cheers and happy Friday... Rick

Happy Friday Indeed!
