Hello Adobe,

Closed Caption in Captivate 10 flickers when moving from one slide to another. Is there a way to fix it?

I have noticed this also, along with a ton of other quirky effects of this new release. For example, I converted my file up to latest version and lost all captions that had to be turned back on individually because apparently the Project window settings won't apply to the whole Project as you would think. No, you must go into each individual slide and set all design preferences for each of your many slides. Additionally, I cannot meet my client's preferences for audio on quizzes, as there is no way anymore to stop main audio from playing when your feedback audio comes up, even though the tool allows us to do this (very poor design). I have to say, I am not at all impressed by the many extra hours I have to devote to dev now. I've been doing this for over 15 years and I'm quite sure we can do better than this for rapid dev tools. Needless to say, this is the last time I will build in this version until things are intuitive and easier. It's a shame.

It appears that if a slide has no closed caption text in the Slide Notes panel, the closed captions box/background disappears for the duration of the slide, even when 'Show Closed Captions' for the project is checked. The CCs box reappears on the next slide that contains closed caption text. If we were able to fade it in or out it would be less annoying, but when it 'blinks' on and off between CC'd and non-CC'd slides it is extremely distracting. Not sure why this behaviour has been introduced - a bug perhaps? Ideally, it should stay visible for all slides when 'Show Closed Captions' is checked for the project.

That particular behavior IS a bug and Adobe claims to have addressed it with a patch.  But it's not as easy as it should be to actually get hold of the update.

I personally think the time is WELL OVERDUE for Captivate 2017 to get it's first official dot point release update.

Unfortunately the hotfix for CC issues, at least the one I recently received, doesn't address this particular problem. The hotfix lets you control the CC with a custom button, but the CC box still winks in and out of existence depending on whether a particular part has captions. (And the CC variable also still automatically switches back and forth between 0 and 1 as you go from slides with no captions to slides with captions.)

I agree with Captivate needing a release update; I was very confused when I started the 2017 trial and found that there were CC issues that had been addressed in a hotfix nearly a year ago but hadn't been fixed in an update. (Isn't the point of a subscription that things can be patched fairly regularly...?)

How I address this is that I make my Closed Captioning background transparent and create a dark grey (or whatever colour is appropriate) background for the closed captioning to rest on top of.

You know this is one thing they could have left alone. Version 9 worked really well.

My thoughts exactly. It was simple and behaved as you (and users) would expect.
