Ctrl+Z does not affect TOC

Hi all,

I have already reported this as a bug but I wanted to reach out to see if anyone can recreate this. It seems that changes to the TOC are not logged as history states controlled by Undo/Redo.

The UI is so tiny in the TOC Editor window, I accidentally hit "Reset TOC" instead of "Settings" right below. I lost all my changes. I hit Ctrl+Z a couple times but in the end I had to redo and rename everything manually. Then, back in my project I was lucky enough to notice that the last few changes I had done before opening the TOC Editor had been undone.

Even after making changes to the TOC, you won't see your changes in the Undo/Redo options.

Am I doing something wrong? Or is my mistake using the built in TOC to begin with? ;þ

I understand the problem, never tried CTRL-Z myself in that situation.

However I am popping in because of this sentence:

"I had to redo and rename everything manually. "

Did you have many levels in the TOC? Because for two levels, the highest level is automatically set to the Group name used for grouped slides, the lowest level gets automatically the Slide names when you use the Reset TOC. I don't understand why you had to do this manually? Only when using more than 2 levels do you need to type in manually.

Ah, yes! See, I thought I was doing something wrong here too. I hope you can see the picture below.

I feel like I remember naming the slide in the Properties pane would give you a name to select in the TOC window. But as you can see, those names are not being carried into the TOC editor. And hitting reset erases those names as well as levels.

Am I remembering correctly that the Slide name in Properties should show up here? Is Captivate being....tempermental?

Or am I remembering this incorrectly? Am I supposed to be entering the Slide Names elsewhere.

That feature has always worked perfectly for me. You have only one slide name, click the Reset TOC button, and it should show up.

Watch this published movie, it has a TOC? and you'll see the slide names I used, and one group of slides, which was named as well.

Ah, ok. You need to refresh after naming in Properties. That is what I was missing. I expected it to update automatically.

It does not change the fact that I was undoing things in the project unknowingly after making mistakes in the TOC Editor window. In all the confusion, this may have been how I lost slide titles to begin with.

Slide names cannot be lost that way at all. I suspect you typed everything in the TOC itself, which is really not a very comfortable workflow. If you worked that way, every time you click the Reset button, Captivate will replace the typed names by the slide names and since they werre ghe generic names 'Slide 1.... everything worked as was designed.

Tip: create the TOC only at the end of the project, when you have labeled all slides and eventually have created slide groups which is a good way to show the structure of the course in the TOC.

Yes, I am at the end of the project.

And I should have clarified it is likely I had undid the names of my slide titles /before/ I'd tried refresh. I named a few at first. When I didn't see them I thought I needed to name them in the editor. But I tried ctrl+z several times throughout updating fonts etc. I even saved and came back in at one point. It was a messy workflow...

All I know is, I lost some changes before I finally figured out what was going on, slide titles being one of those. At least I can be sure of the proper way to get slide names in there and that's a big help. Thanks!
