Export as non-Flash file?

New Here ,

Hello,

I've inherited some tutorial files that were developed in Captivate, but I'm now working in an environment where Flash is not deployed as standard. Are there any alternate Save or Export options available in the current version that do not reply on Flash, either as an Application or ActiveX?

If not, can anybody suggest a method to re-purpose the files for a non Flash environment?

Many thanks
Chris

Hi Chris and welcome to our community

You might want to check out SoThink SWF to Video converter. Click here to visit the page.

Cheers... Rick

Hi! I am getting two SWF files when I choose to publish my project in Captivate 2. One has the title, and the other has "title_skin" - If I run the 'skin' version, I get my control bar as I am supposed to. However, when I try to convert the SWF to an MPEG, it is only two frames long - it's only capturing the first two frames and ignoring the rest of the project.

Is there a way to fix this one?

Thank you!

Hi jerosejr

Sounds like you are pointing at only the skin.SWF? My might wish to try pointing at the Main.SWF instead. If you really want or need the playback controls, try DE-selecting the Borders via Project > Skin... > Borders tab. This should banish the _skin.SWF and force the playback controls into the main.SWF.

Cheers... Rick

Unfortunately, Captivate is designed to publish to Flash and that's about it. If the materials are self-running, with zero interactions, then definitely check out Rick's suggestion for converting them all to video files.

If you're looking to preserve some interactivity, your only other option is to publish the files as .EXE and find a way to deploy them that way. But even that format works by temporarily installing the Flash Player, so depending on your environment, that could also prove to be problematic.

Thank you both for the suggestions, much appreciated. It looks as if I may need to find another way round this problem as bandwidth won't allow video & security won't permit the EXE solution.

I look forward to participating in the community.

Chris
