Export/Import text captions in CP4

I'm having a problem when I export the text captions from my Captivate 4 file, and try to re-import them.

I go to File > Export > Text Captions and Closed Captions. This generates a Word document with the text captions.

I make edits to the Word doc and save it.

Back in Captivate, I go to File > Import > Text Captions and Closed Captions, to import the Word doc I just edited.

After about 30 minutes of waiting, I get this error message:
"An error was encountered while publishing to Word. Verify the following and try again. Word is installed on your system. Word is not busy"

My cp file is about 48MB and 125 slides.

Does anyone know if there's a file size limit for the import text captions feature?

Also, does anyone have any ideas for reducing the file size of a cp file, without deleting slides? I deleted all the unused library items, but it didn't seem to make a difference to the file size.

Thanks!

This is perhaps not the right answer, but which version of Word do you use? I experienced problems with Word 2007, with 2003 all is working fine. Just a question...

Hi,

I'm using Word 2007. A Captivate support specialist also mentioned the issue about Word 2007 being a possible cause of the problem.

I still haven't been able to do the text import, but I found a work-around. I've been copy/pasting the text from the Word doc into each text caption individually. It's a tedious process, but it appears to be working.

Thanks for replying

I was encountering the same issue with importing captions back into CP4 via Word 7. I believe I've found the solution. After you export the captions and open it in Word 7, select "Save-As" and make sure to choose the "Word 97-2003 Document (*.doc)" type. I know it seems silly to save-as the type the file already appears to be, but it works!

Posis Das is correct.  I was experiencing this exact same issue in CP 4, using MSWord 2007 and exporting to the MSWord 97-2003 (.doc) format.  I opened the edited (.doc) file, performed a "Save As" with the exact same file name, using the MSWord 97-2003 format (effectively overwriting the existing Word file).  CP 4 then imported the captions back into the project without protest.
