Hello,

Having trouble with inserting a 3 min flash video. Everytime I publish the file the project and video are not linking up. Any ideas? Tried to import a 3 min avi file and can not publish.

Thanks
Sapna

Hi Sapna

I see you mention that it is an avi file?? If that is the case, then that is where the problem lies as Captivate will only allow you to import flv files as video. I suggest you convert the avi to flv and then try again.
Please post back if I misunderstood you.

Cheers

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for your response. It was originally a Flash Video .flv and then I used another programs "screen record" feature to try avi and import as animation. I know I should be able to import the flash video but don't understand why they aren't linking up when I publish. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks!
Sapna

Hi Sapna

2 questions from me to assist in understanding the problem:
Are you exporting as exe or swf?
What settings are you using when you import the flv file?

Hi Andrew,

I am exporting the project as an swf and I used the Progressive Download. I;ve looked at many posts on this site and it seems as though it has something to do with Absolute vs Relative paths?

Thanks!

Hi Sapna

In the case of SWF outputs, you need to make sure that the flv file is also copied to the same directory in which the swf is stored. With exe outputs, the flv is stored "within" the output file, but with swf output it references to the external flv file itself.

Try an experiment and in the screen where you reference to the flv, delete the path and keep only the flv file name, then publish and make sure your flv is in the same folder. If this works, then you have a relative link which is obviously more flexible than the absolute link.

Good Luck
