I don't understand. Why its so hard to just display a username at the end of a quiz. I've been trying all day!  I'm using Cap4. I've tried using a text input box but can't find how to retrive the input to display on the quiz results page.  This task is so easy using Trainersoft and Courselab. Can any one help please.

Hi Ken,

On the first slide, add a text entry box and using the Options tab make sure that you disable the Validate user input options. I would also suggest that you keep the Show button option selected. Next in the Advanced tab of the Text Entry Box enter the name of your variable such as "enterText" Click OK. Now on the last slide add a text caption. In the Text Caption dialog box, click on the last button entitled "Insert Variable" By default your user variable such as "enterText" should be shown in the variables menu, just click OK.

Now when you preview you should be able to insert a name. When you click the button, you should just move to the next slide in your project. On the last slide the name you entered in the text entry box, should be shown in the text caption.

You did not specify how you want to get the username. The easiest way to make a training, a quiz into a personalized experience is rather well explained in the CP4-help, go to the chapter 'Variables and Advanced Actions', where you find a 'Tutorial on scripting' which explains just what you want (I think so). A short list of actions to be performed:

  1. Create a user variable, p.e. vName
  2. Ask the user to introduce his name by creating a Text Entry Box; in the properties of the TEB, sheet 'Advanced'  you can indicate to put this username in your user variable vName
  3. Wherever you want, you can use this variable. If you want to show the name on the score of a quiz, create a Text Caption and insert the user variable on using the button 'Insert variable' (button has an X with an arrow). In the Text Caption the variable will show as '$$vName$$'

I hope this will shorten your search? As far as I know it is not possible to insert an external variable from a LMS.
