Under the common name CP2019 there have been 3 main releases: 11.0, 11.5 and 11.8.  What is now labeled as Captivate Classic is version 11.8.2 or 11.8.3 and that version lost a lot of possibilities, like what I described in this blog post:

More is in a... hyperlink - Dropdown Menu - Captivate blog (lilybiri.com)

This workflow would still be possible in version 11.5.5 whuch still had the Learning interactions. They were taken out in 11.8.2 although they worked perfectly for HTML5 output since years.

Can you please tell the exact version number which you can find under Help, About Captivate

I didn't try the workflow in this (buggy) release, it may need some tweaking.

What exactly do you mean by 'Go to Next Slide' based on the choice in the dropdown menu? I suppose there are multiple choices in that menu, what needs to happen with each choice?

I have a drop down menu with three items on the menu. I need the learner to advance to the next slide if item three is selected. If they select item one or item two, it does not advance to the next slide.

If you are uisng the "Drop Down" Learning Interaction, there is a variable created that wills store the result of the selected item from the drop down list.

You can use an Advanced Action to test the varriable's value and advance to the required page based upon that value.

@Astro The Goat The learning interactions which had disappeared in 11.8.2 are back in 11.8.3. I don't know if the OP used that interaction which I described in detail in a rather old blog post:

Dropdown Interaction - tips - Captivate blog (lilybiri.com)

However clicking an item in that interaction will indeed give a value to the associated variable (which needs to be created, it is not automatically) but that is not creating an event. It may be much simpler in a custom dropdown menu to use a hyperlink over the correct item and trigger a Go to Next slide with that hyperlink. Hyperlinks can be used as event triggers:

Use Hyperlinks as Interactive Object. - Captivate blog (lilybiri.com)

In that situation the navigation to the next slide will happen immediately when clicking the correct item in the list.

BTW: the variable for the dropdown interaction needs to be created by the developer, it is not created automatically. That is the case for all variables in the learning interactions. Your answer didn't mention this and that may lead to confusion.
