How do I track training without LMS???

How do I track employees that have completed quizzes with buying an LMS? The email option is useless since it delivers a score, but no report identifier. I have tried selecting "send an email" on successful completion of click boxes and other areas, but that also sends blank emails. Why have an email option if it delivers nothing?

When I sold my boss on this product I told her that it would allow us to track who has completed each training as I was told by the sales people at Adobe. But I can't figure out how it's done and from everything I am reading in all the forums, nobody else can either. Does it actually do this or was I misinformed? Any help would be appreciated.

bakedwookie,

You can try this:
http://www.connectusers.com/tutorials/2009/03/track_proprietary/index.php

E-mail tracking (using the client-side template) is still an option, but may
take some tweaking... The article linked above discusses potentially using
a server-side e-mail tracking (among other options).

Regards,

Andrew

bakedwookie,

The article provided by Andrew is first rate. But there's the possibility of a very simple system. Not up to the sophistication suggested by Andrew but OK.

In quiz preferences -> settings setup Quiz Objective and Interaction ID - this will help you identify which quiz is which from the results. Again in Quiz preferences -> reporting set up your email reporting address and select the "attachment" option.

This combination will deliver a plain text message with comma separated fields containing the scores etc. You can import the text messages into, for example, MS Excel or MS Access. If you get loads of emails then you might want to investigate this cheap utility I found on the net - it's from icon logic at http://www.iconlogic.com/CaptivateMyData.htm and it harvests the text attachments and imports them en-masse into Excel or Access.

You'll have also to check that your users' PCs allow them to launch email from their resident email client as some (corporate) hosts have their software locked down to prevent autolaunch.

You might also want to investigate the certificate widget that comes with Captivate as I've heard of some users .pdfing the certificate output and forwarding that on as proof that they took a test.

regards,

Henry

... and thanks Andrew you answered a question that was troubling me...!

Thanks Henry, but is there a way to deliver the name of the Quiz or the Objective ID on the email? The email only gives me test results but does not identify which test it was.

Absolutely - even if you modify the HTM file (for each published file) to
explicitly include a unique identifier.

I have a problem related to using email to report quiz results without an LMS. Please help! :-)

The results in the email are not consistant and the email address does not auto populate in the email window. All we need is the total percent pass/fail and the user's name, but the results of each question would be nice.

To capture the name, I created a short answer text entry interaction and set it to survey (no wrong answers). I created a quiz with 30 questions. Some are random questions from question pools.

I set Quiz Reporting Preferences to the following settings:
1. Enable reporting for this project
2. Email (email address)
3. Attachment
4. Report Status: Pass/Fail
5. Report to LMS as: Percent
6. Choose Report Data: Quiz results and slide views
7.Reporting Level: Interactions and score

Is this the right setting for what I want?

Sometimes the ATT includes the following (for example):

Results=Core Data "Status", "Location", "Score", "Time"
"passed", "3", "100", "00:05:14"

Interaction Data
"Date", "Time", "Interaction ID", "Objective ID", etc.

But it only includes the data for the first 3-5 questions, not all 30.

What am I doing wrong? Please help. 🙂

Bakedwookie,

Here are sample ATT data we are receiving by email:

-----------------------------------------------

Content-Disposition: form-data; name="Results"

Core Data
"Status","Location","Raw Score","Max Score","Min Score","Time"
"passed","9","60","60","0","00:02:21"

Interaction Data
"Date","Time","Interaction ID","Objective ID","Interaction Type","Correct Response","Student Response","Result","Weight","Latency"
"04/02/2009","10:38:39","GIAPMInteraction1210439","B1C1","choice","A","A","C","20","00:00:24"
"04/02/2009","10:38:56","GIAPMInteraction1210533","B1C1","choice","B,A,D","B,A,D","C","20","00:00:16"
"04/02/2009","10:39:12","GIAPMInteraction1210353","B1C1","choice","B","B","C","20","00:00:11"

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is for a three question quiz - you'll notice the separate interaction id we have for each question, and the objective id tells us which segment of training the user is in. All done through Quiz Preferences -> Settings.

The user id we pick up from the email address as all our email senders have the format firstname.familyname as their email account names.

The certificate option Andrew has given provides yet another good option for generating a user result and we know of one or two small businesses that print and keep these as proof of sitting a course.

And to Cat-Lady,

Our quizzes have the users locked in - we have quiz settings of "Allow backward movement" switched off, and Quiz required settings of "Answer all - the user must answer every question. Is it possible that your users are bypassing some of the quiz questions because they can continue past the question?"

Our selected settings for scoring are: Pass/Fail; Score; Quiz results and slide views; Slide view completion 100%; Interactions and Score. In the settings area Quiz Result messages we have selected everything.

Regards,

Henry
