How to Get Failure or Hint Messages to Show for Shortcut/Text Inputs in Simulation?

New Here ,
Jun 29, 2018 Jun 29, 2018

I recorded a software simulation as an assessment. Some slides require shortcut keys and text input as the correct responses. The number of attempts is limited to 2, but when users click on the screen rather than inputting the shortcut keys or text, the simulation does not recognize those clicks as incorrect attempts; neither the "Failure" nor "Hint" captions trigger, and the simulation does not progress.

  1. How do I get those incorrect clicks to trigger the "Failure" or "Hint" captions?
  2. Can I include them in the quiz as incorrect attempts?

How did you configure Shortcut OR input of text, that isnot clear to me.

Normally for an assessment the input is configured as a scored Text Entry Box on a slide. If they don't enter the correct text expected, the Failure beedback message should pop up. But need to see the setup, a combinatinon like you describe means manual tweaking. What is on the timeline, which interactive object, to which event dd you link the shortcut keys?

In the default setup of Assessment traiining, you don't have a Hint message.

Here are the Actions settings for the click box example of the "Ctrl+C" shortcut. The Actions settings for the Text Entry Box input are configured the same way. (The "Hint" checkbox is not checked in the image, but when it is checked, will not trigger.) The simulation recognizes keyboard input, so when a user presses the keyboard twice with anything but "Ctrl+C" the simulation moves forward and the answer is counted as wrong. How to get the simulation to recognize the clicks (as incorrect) and move the simulation forward?

You unchecked 'Allow Mouse click', they have to use the shortcut uniquely?

Correct. Only the text entries and shortcut keys work in the software, so I can't allow mouse clicks as correct responses.

Is there a reason why you didn't update? Maybe because of the AutoPlay turned off for HTML output even for non-responsive projects?

No reason other than my IT department has us all locked down tight; they do all updates. I wasn't aware an update was available. Thank you for the info about the AutoPlay. It's always something, right?!

Unless someone comes into this thread with a workaround, I'll just add a textbox on the keyboard entry screens that tells users clicking is not an option. (sigh)
