Is it possible to make a "Indiana Jones flight map" style moving line?

Hello,

I was wondering whether I could recreate a red moving line (on a map) that grows longer to show the progress people have made already.

You may remember the scene from Indiana Jones movies (and old BW films) where the plane flies over the map.

I just need a way to have a plane/dot/X move from A to B trailing a red line behind it. There is no need for a dotted line.

Is that possible?

If so, to have learners drag this object themselves along a defined motion path would be too much to ask for I guess...

If you are on CP9, you could use states: create as many states for the lines as you want to see different length. Be sure to have the map with that line object timed for the rest of the project, always on top. Use the On Enter event of each slide to change to the next state.

I was thinking of states also.

So to easily have an effect that trails a line from a to b is probably more of a Adobe Premiere topic...

If you want it animated, use a HTML animation. It is not (yet) possible to apply an effect on a state. You could use a 'cover' that moves using a motion path as well. But it will be more work than with the states, because you'll have to configure the path on each slide. And what if the user comes back to a slide? With the states, and a conditional action On Enter that is easily to solve, but with effects?

I thought about the moving "cover" idea too but wasn´t sure how to keep the background (map image) onscreen the entire time while just covering up the parts of the red line I don´t want to show yet.

Because the red line would have to be on a plane/layer above the map, wouldn´t it. So by covering parts of it up I would also hide that part of the map.

The learner will not return to that slide.

If your computer has a touch screen you might use a device to just draw on top of the map while recording (using Video demo mode) and create the line that way?

Of if you don't have a touch screen available, you could use something like a graphics tablet. Or, and I say this only for the sake of being fairly complete, if you have a laptop, perhaps use the built in track pad with some pointy device like a stylus.

I was able to make a rough using zoom in effects and the mouse object with a custom cursor.

Unfortunately, this is not very precise so making the path and landing locations exactly where they appear on the zoomed map will take some trial and error.

You can create the Video, that is not an issue. But how you have to turn that video into clips so that they can be used to have a progress indicator, that is a totally different problem. You can put a video in a state. Do you want the trial to move from the beginning on each slide, or proceed from where it was on the previous slide?

I am starting very basic now.

Let´s say I just want a clip I can insert into a state.

So I

a. start a video demo project. Check!

b. record the red line moving (I did it in Photoshop elements as I am not a pro...) Check!

c. now I have a clip in CP. Check!

My question:

a. how do I trim that clip?

b. how do I save it or transfer it to my original cp file? Copy/paste?

I just realized it is a SWF file...

I did it again and it took me to an editing screen,

now I can save it as CPVC.

You will need more than one clip.... Video editor allows you to trim, to cut the video in different clips.

Actually I followed the idea of the video capture just drawing a line on the screen.

Then I chopped it up as you said.

Publish as video and Bob´s your uncle!
