replace one image with another

Again,  something that's so simple in other applications takes an hour of research when using Cp: I have a better version of a photo and I want to overwrite the old one that's already in the project--how do I do it? Don't tell me delete the old and replace the new in its exact spot and put in all the timing and effects. (If you call this rapid elearning--I'd like to know what a slow elarning program looks like)

You have to find it in the library, then double click it there, click import, than locate the new file.

That's one way.  Another way is to just go to the slide where you image is located and select it, then in the Properties tab click the button with the image filename on it.  That will allow you the choice of selecting another image currently in the Library or Importing a new file from elsewhere on your computer or network.

If all you have done is edit the original image that you previously imported to Captivate, and you haven't changed the filename or location of that image, then you can just find the image in the library, right click it and choose Update from the context menu.

Most of the time with Captivate you will find that there is more than one way of doing things.  As you learn how to use the application, your speed of production improves.

Whether creating e-learning with any tool is rapid or not depends a great deal on how well you know the tool.

Thanks. BTW, what eLearning authoring tool would you consider not rapid?

In my case I have dozens of SVG images that are repeated on multiple slides.  I need to replace these with PNG because I find that there is a big lag time when slides draw each SVG one at a time. It slows down editing and is also very noticeable in HTML5 playback in a browser.

The first suggestion to update the library image would be the easiest. I right-clicked on the file in the Library and tried to import a new image to replace the one in the Library but it would only allow me to import an image of the same file type i.e. SVG.

Your second suggestion would entail finding and selecting many dozens of individual images and replacing them one at a time. Very laborious and time consuming. But even here, it only allows me to import another SVG!

Captivate should allow me to do the replacement in the Library without restricting me to images of the same file type.  But maybe I'm missing something?
