Replicating Text Boxes

Guest
Apr 26, 2013 Apr 26, 2013

I am trying to create a short answer quiz where the response populates more than 1 text box. For example I answer a question on slide 1 and it populates a text box on page 20 automatically with the same info. What is the best way to do this?

Hi there,

You can insert a Text entry box and define a variable (like I have used variable name as 'xyz1') for the text to be entered and validate the user input if you want,

And then on the slide where you want to show the content of the text entry box, insert a text caption there and use $$variablename$$, I have used $$xyz1$$ in my example"

Whenever this text caption will come up it will show the content of Text Entry Box. If you will uncheck the validate user input then you cannot include text e

Hello there,

Which version of Captivate is it?

How many short answer questions are there in your project and how many questions are there in total in your project?

Do you want the text entered in the short answer question by user to be displayed on another slide as Text Caption.

Thanks.

I am using Captivate 5.

I am experimenting with the amount of questions, but for example purposes lets say I have 5 open ended questions/answers per project.

Basically what I am trying to do is ask questions along the way through a module and when the total module is done have all those answers populate another area for review. Like filling out a questionaire one question at a time, than at the end have it all filled out. If text box X is filled in on slide 1,  I want it to fill textbox Y on slide 10 with the the same info.

I would use a Text Entry box or a TextArea widget, which both have an associated variable that can be displayed later in a text container. Do you have to score the question?

It does not necessarily need to be scored. Open ended questions that will fill out an overall page later.

How do I associated what is entered in a TextBox with another Text box? That is what I am looking to do

You can insert any variable in a text container (use that word to point to both text captions and shapes with text) using the small X button in the Format accordion of the text container when you are in Edit mode.

Maybe this introduction to variables could help you: http://blog.lilybiri.com/curious-about-variables-in-captivate-4-5 (still valid for 6)

And if you want to use the TextArea widget:

I hope you may find it helpful.

Thanks.
