Scoring Issues

Hello ,

In my quiz i have 10 questions with 10 score each , i have choose option that learner needs to submit on each question and each question have 2 attempts it works fine while taking the quiz , but at the end of the quiz  the score shows as failed or sometimes just score as 10 although while the quiz i am making sure that i have it wrong the first attempt and have it all correct the second attempt. I am publishing the course on SAP LSO and its in SCROM 1.2.

Will appreciate a solution.

Can you check Advanced Interaction panel (F9) to see if you do not include other scored objects in the score?

That looks OK, wanted first to check.

Next question: I do not know version you are using, but are you sure to click the Submit button, not the Next button when confirming an answer? Submit process has two steps: first feedback message appears, then user has to press Y or click on the slide.

Or did you delete some of the embedded objects, those are objects without an individual timeline.

Thank you . I am using version 8.0.3.290 .

That’s correct I am using submit button but to navigate to next screen I am using next button. & I haven’t deleted any objects .

NEVER use the Next button during quiz, because that means SKIP in that phase, your answer will get a score of 0. You only need the Next button during Review, where it will be a real Next button. To avoid that confusion: drag the Next button under the Clear button. The Clear button will disappear during review and the Next button becomes visible. More tweaks in this article:

Ok I tried to hide the Next button than tested didn’t work, than I unchecked the next button and it still didn’t work this is what is shows at the end while 9 answers are correct and one is incorrect .

Instead of each question slide being scored at 10 points, try setting each one to a single point and see if you get a different result.

Some LMS's have issues with scores >100 points, but that is not the case for you. I don't see why changing it to 1 point would help, but you could try of course. I would have recommended this if the score was over 100points.

Do you have a score slide? Do you see the wrong score on that slide? Is that the last slide? If yes, try to insert an end slide after the score slide, and set both Success and Failure actions, which are triggered by the Continue button on the score slide, to go to that last slide. Just to be sure that the score is transmitted.

I noticed one thing this happens at the last question slide. When I navigate through the questions with retake options all scores well until the last question when I submit the right answer and click anywhere to continue the submitted answer it reset and I have to select the correct answer one more time than click submit than click anywhere to continue question , it takes me to score and the total score that is displayed on the score slide is the points of last question slide .

I tried this by having 5 points for last question whereas all other have 10 points and total score displayed on score slide was 5

I check if there is any action script called in that is forcing this reset but no action script found.

Yes I tried it but the score is not transmitted. So to investigate I added a slide to show me total score after each question. At the last question somehow the score gets reset.

Have no idea what happens. Did you already try to delete that question and recreate it from scratch? Maybe something is corrupted in that slide? Or first: try to move that question to another location in the file and see what the result is to find out if it is the question itself, or the score not updated after the last question (which will be another question in this case)?

I move couple of answers around as I thought maybe something is wrong with that perticular one but same issue . I would like to send you the default quiz script to have a look surely there is something that is happening before the score slide which is resetting all score except the last question score .

I will try and rebuild it tomorrow and test it further thanks a lot .

What do you mean by 'default quiz script'? Are you not using default question slides?

I am using the default one I thought maybe there is some error . There has to be something that's resetting the whole test at last question and only scoring the last questions points , doesn't matter what question I bring as last question .

I never had such an experience, and I'm using Captivate many hours a day. It is also the first time this problem appears on the forums (which I visit daily). I suspect we are missing something, don't think there is a bug in this case.

I agree there has to be a bug , I want to investigate further and look for root cause before I built it new . I am using captivate 8 latest patch .

I built the quiz from scratch and still the same issue at last question while taking the course all my selected answers get reset when I hit submit button for first time, I have to select all the answers again than hit submit button and at second attempt it goes to score slide and the points of last question are seen on score slide with failed message below screen are my options selected for each questions.

Sorry, but I don't see a script at all, still do not understand what you mean by it at all.

Did you clear the cache and clean the Preferences? I'm asking this because since 2010 when I started answering questions on this forum, I never did see something reported like you do now. Captivate has bugs, I'm aware of it, but it feels weird that up till now you are the first one to report this. Quizzes are used by many users, and a possible bug like this should have been detected already.

Since this seems to be consistent for you in a new quiz, I suspect something is wrong in your Captivate installation. That is the reason why I recommend clearing th cache and cleaning the Preferences (look in the subfolder 'Utils' for a file to execute to Clean the Preferences).

I tried clearing the preferences but still the same.

Do you know what script runs when we click anywhere in quiz to that takes us to next question? I am wondering to see where is clears my score in last question.

You don't have access to that script. It is part of the two-step process that starts when clicking the Submit button, a button you should never mess up with:

1. The feedback message appears, with the warning to press Y or click on the slide; the question slide remains paused
2. When the user presses Y or clicks on the slide on Success or after the Last Attempt on question level, the playhead is released, and the actions specified in the Quiz Properties panel are executed.

This is the same on each question slide, no reason why it should be different on the last question slide.

What has to be avoided always is to click on the Skip button (sometimes labeled Next, depends on version) instead of the Submit button because that will mean that the question is skipped and will not be included in the Total score.

That article is valid for all questions before CP9. In CP9 the confusion between Skip/Next and Submit is gone, because dedicated buttons during Review appear when wanted.

These are the only 2 button I have on my question slides rest I have deactivated from property panel. Shall I send you my test to run and see if same happens at your end ?
