Software simulation loads slowly

Hi there,

I've created a software simulation in the new Captivate on Mac and exported it as a SCORM 2004 packagfe.  It worked fine, but when I open the file in the LMS, it takes more than 20 seconds to load (depending on the connection speed).

So I checked the files in the folders. As you can see in the screenshot, each step of my simulation was saved as bmp with an file size of 19.8 MB! Unlike in Captivate Classic, I couldn't find any way of reducing the file size. In this configuration, I don't think that the software simulation feature is useful. Any suggestions? I'm very grateful for help.

Is it possible to check the full version number? It should be under Help, About Captivate or same option under Captivate. I am a Windows user, but heard about this problem already multiple times. My immediate reaction is to use the Software simulation in the Captivate Classic version 11.8.2 which you can install parallel with the new version. There are indeed too many features which you cannot control in the new version. Moreover since it is responsive if you are using the non-passive modes (Assessment/Training) you'll get unwanted zooming and panning on mobile screens. That shouldn't happen for an assessment. Personally I never use sims for passive video (Demo mode) but Video Demo which is not available in the new version.

Did you capture a screen with high resolution? The background files are indeed big, and I also suspect that there are no identical backgrounds which are reused because the new version has no focus on reusability.

Hi @bastianb43464790 ,

If you're using Captivate 12.2 (Adobe Captivate > About Adobe Captivate), you can eliminate unnecessary files from your project. Please try the following:

1. Open your project.

2. Select File > Remove Unused Items.

Try the steps and republish. Please let us know.

@Saurav_Ghosh Hmmm... if this is a pure software simulation, all backgrounds have been created during capture.  There will not be many unused items. Moreover unused items will never be included in the output (common misunderstanding since decades), they increase the file size of the raw project, but not of the output. The OP is talking about the output '....when I open the file in the LMS, it takes more than 20 seconds to load ', not about the raw file.

Software simulation, at least in the first version of Charm is very slow, reason why I recommend to every user to keep to Captivate Classic for all the reasons I included in my first comment. Responsiveness is more a hurdle than an advantage for sims.

Hi,    We keep original size on stage- in case if you need any edits. can you let us know the published scorm zip folder size (it should be much smaller).  Also pls share the zip with us (sankaram@adobe.com) - so that we can see why it is loading slowly?

Thanks,

Sankaram
