Is there any way of caturing testing data (questions, right/wrong answers, etc) without using a LMS?

You can use the Internal Server solution. It is documented in the Help.

If you have your own database server you can also use javascript and a scripting language to access and store all of that.

My system uses javascript and cold fusion to do so without the need for a third party LMS.
